Below are some tips of what to bring extra of on your Kona Vacation- oh, you can get everything on island but you’ll be having so much fun you probably won’t want to stop!A sense of adventure

You can do anything on the Island. Visit mantas, hike to a waterfall, explore a coffee ranch, spend your days on the beach or learn to make the perfect margarita and enjoy sunset on sunset (and sunrise) on the lanai!

Sunscreen

Obviously sunscreen is a pretty easy find on the island but we at Kona Rentals take skincare very seriously so if you have a favorite stock up and make sure you’re wearing it!

Hats & Head Covers

This goes along with the sunscreen obviously.

Extra Shoes

Kona provides so many fun opportunities for adventure your trip can be whatever you make it out to be. Flip-flops, shoes for hiking, shoes for going out. The last thing you want is sore feet!

Back-up Chargers/ Memory Cards

Again this is something you can easily find on the island but I’ve always found it’s best to have an extra or two in my travel bag. After all you don’t want to be watching the sun come up and see a whale only to miss the perfect shot because your battery is dead?

The Aloha Spirit

Actually we provide all you need on the island! 🙂

This weekend the Big Island marks the start of the 55th Annual Merrie Monarch Festival which runs April 1-7 in the Hilo area. They have shows an arts fair and a parade (amongst other things) open to the public while the big event is the 3-day long Hula competition. (The Hula competition is ticketed. You can find more information linked in the website for the festival above.)

It’s quiet a fun show!

The festival itself was started and continues as a celebration of Hawaiian Culture!

Trip Advisor has put the Big Island in the Top 10 Destinations to Visit in the US! Part of the appeal no doubt is the perfect mix between the many adventures you can have on the Big Island and the peaceful way of living!Congratulations!

One of our FAVORITE places to eat on the island. We NEVER miss a chance to stop by and chat and bust our diets! Big Jake’s is located at Mile Marker 106 in Honaunau on the Big Island of Hawai’i. When you visit the Big Island stop by andtry the award winning beef brisket, the smoked chicken sandwich, smoked pork plate, brisket plate, or try a rack of baby back ribs. They are all fantastic and come with sides of potato salad or coleslaw. Big Jake’s has been a local favorite for years—see what all the fuss is about!

Boasting 42 miles of trails, you can lose yourself literally in this special place. Make sure you take some water and check the local maps to see which trails suits you best. There are short trails that circle the village or you can opt for a longer one that will take you winding in the hills up about the town. There are checkpoints along the trails so you know just how far you have come and how much further you have to go. If you prefer to keep it simple you can always walk around the town. Start on the famed Main St. and make your way North until you cross 1st Street. You’ll pick up the walking paths there that zig zags through the local area. Make sure to stop in at Bill’s Ice Cream for a scoop of the local favorite.
