chocolates

My favorite weekend on the Big Island is coming up!

That’s right it’s Big Island Chocolate Festival Time. This years event “Chocolate in Paradise” will take place April 23rd through 25th at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort and Spa with the big gala happening on Sunday April 25th.

As always there will be tours, demonstrations and taste testing (yeah!), competitions and a whole Chocolate Farmers Market that Friday! It really is a great time to be a chocolate lover in Kona!

The event is put on by the Kona Cacao Association and proceeds support education, sustainable farming and other non-profit organizations. Tickets are priced by event and can be purchased: here!

There are early bird prices available if you are, well, an early bird!

The Kona Coffee Cultural Festival is one of the biggest most delightful Fall events on the Big Island and it’s coming up fast!

The 54th annual Kona Coffee Cultural Festival takes place between November 7- 16 this year. It’s been going on since 1970 and celebrates the nearly two hundred years of Kona Coffee.

The festival includes all kind of events and fun things to do solo or in a group whether you love coffee or are just looking to have a nice time out!

Among the events are multiple local tours, some historical tours included, workshops. Coffee tasting (of course!) coffee brewing courses (naturally) art exhibits, parades, competitions and even a scholarship award! You can download a PDF of all the events on the website.

Its $10 for a Kona Coffee Festival button for the ten day event. Kids under 5 are free. All in all the event is a staple in Kona during the fall and there’s really something for everyone (even the non-coffee drinkers among us) so check it out if you get the chance.

Aloha everyone! With the end of summer upon us that means IronMan 2025 is right around the corner! This year Kona is playing host to the Women’s World Championship Event. The race is slated for October 11th, 2025. If you aren’t aware IronMan is the world famous 140.6 mile triathlon that plays host to some of the top competitors in the world. They swim, they bike, they run and we can all watch content from the sidelines cheering them on.

All competitors have pre-qualified through a series of races held throughout the world all year. These are the best of the best!

Plus it’s just a fun event to experience on the Big Island! Whether you’re a competitor or a spectator we have some great accommodations available for all and great proximity to the event course. Even the finish line! Check out our website here or call if you have any questions. There’s still plenty of time to get a great spot!

Ironman Kona Bike Course

And while the event has been split up into Men’s/Women’s races the past couple of years next year it will return to a single day race in Kona!

Safe travels and best of luck to the competitors!

Yokai Parade: Supernatural Monsters from Japan!

Hey Big Island visitors! If you are looking for a fun and interesting experience on the island check out the Yokai Parade exhibit in Hilo! It’s running now through the end of August so you still have some time left.

What are the Yokai? The all-encompassing title for shapeshifters, monsters, ghosts and supernatural beings and phenomena in Japan. Arguably the most well-known examples in the west would be the kitsune and the kaiju. The exhibition celebrates their journey through the ages from monsters and myths and now sometimes more friendly creatures in contemporary media.

The public viewing times are Wednesday through Saturday from 11-3 and admission is free! The event is a collaboration between the Japan Foundation, the Consulate General of Japan and the Hawaii Japanese Center in Hilo, which is where the event takes place. For more information email [email protected]

If you have any questions about travel you can contact us! As always have a fun safe trip and enjoy the exhibit!
