What to Do During a Weather Emergency When Visiting

If you are visiting us in Hawai’i during a weather emergency here are some helpful things to remember. These are of course relevant anywhere!

 

Sign up for and monitor any alerts! This includes weather, traffic, state and local alerts and you can helpful monitor things at this site specially set up for visitors:

We will also keep in touch with you through provided contact information, so please, make sure we have the correct and most up to date way to reach you!

 

Keep your phone charged. Hard under normal circumstances but the best thing you can do in order to receive any alerts or messages that you may need. Prepare for the possibility that you may lose power.

 

Always learn the safety and emergency procedures for where you are staying. Including possible evacuation routes, safety procedures and equipment.

 

Keep important documents and finances with you in water proof bags if necessary.

 

Don’t take risks or do anything stupid.

Kona Coffee Cultural Festival of 2026

Anything you can think of concerning Kona Coffee you can do it at the 55th annual Kona Coffee Cultural Festival from November 6, 2026 to November 15th. The popular long-running event is a celebration of the historical and cultural significance of the native Kona crop.

There is coffee tasting, farm tours and farm experiences, markets, educational events, barista training, scholarship competition of awards and of course latte art classes. Plus on November 7th you can partake in the annal Holualoa Coffee and Art Stroll.So if you are a coffee lover you definitely need to check the events out. Of course it’s also fun for the whole family. The events usually has great weather and it’s a good place to pick up some great gifts for the holidays especially if you know any coffee lovers!

You can attend most events with the purchase of a Festival Button. Although some events and experiences may carry additional fees. Schedule is subject to change so make sure you double check as we get closer to the events.

If you are thinking about joining us on the Big Island below are some of the most frequently asked questions we get from guests. I hope it helps!

Can we check in early?

If you get in touch with us with as much time as you can we can make sure housekeeping has your place ready for you. Within a reasonable amount of time there’s no charge but that is on a time basis. We just need as much notice as possible to make this work if there are no other reservations. 

Do you have baby equipment (like high chairs etc.) in your places?

We do not but we do work with and recommend a local company that has been in business in Kona for Years: Aloha Kona Kids!

Do we need a car rental?

I would say yes. Now if you just want to stay in the downtown Kona area it’s possible with public transportation and there is a trolley but if you think that you may want to wander further a rental is needed. It also makes going and coming from the airport easier.

Do you provide toiletries?

We do provide single-use cruelty free sundries like soap and shampoo.

Is there Wi-Fi?

All of our places do have wi-fi. Passwords are provided on site and in the emailed check-in instructions.

July 4th Event Info: The Parade & Fireworks Show

July 4th Event Info: The Parade and Fireworks Show

If you’re looking for something to do on July 4th in Kona you can always check out the historic Kailua Village Independence Day Parade & Fireworks. The event kicks off at 5:30, leads into the Parade and culminates in the fireworks show over the Kailua Bay starting at 8pm.

 

The Parade route will go from the Kekuaokalani Gym to the Coconut Grove Marketplace while the fireworks will be visible from most all ocean front areas so make sure to bring a beach towel and chairs to enjoy!

Like many places the theme of this years parade is “America the Beautiful,” which celebrates the countries 250th birthday!

Expect some road closures in the area between 5-9 pm.

54th Kona Coffee Cultural Festival is Almost Here!

The Kona Coffee Cultural Festival is one of the biggest most delightful Fall events on the Big Island and it’s coming up fast!

The 54th annual Kona Coffee Cultural Festival takes place between November 7- 16 this year. It’s been going on since 1970 and celebrates the nearly two hundred years of Kona Coffee.

The festival includes all kind of events and fun things to do solo or in a group whether you love coffee or are just looking to have a nice time out!

Among the events are multiple local tours, some historical tours included, workshops. Coffee tasting (of course!) coffee brewing courses (naturally) art exhibits, parades, competitions and even a scholarship award! You can download a PDF of all the events on the website.

Its $10 for a Kona Coffee Festival button for the ten day event. Kids under 5 are free. All in all the event is a staple in Kona during the fall and there’s really something for everyone (even the non-coffee drinkers among us) so check it out if you get the chance.

Kona Fall Orchid Show & Sale!

Kona Orchid Society’s Fall Show!

Get ready for the Kona Orchid Society’s Fall Show and Sale!

This event is a lovely celebration of the flowers and all in all a fun time. It takes place Saturday September 27th from 9am to 2pm. The events includes crafts and vendors too and is fun for children. There will also be a little place provided where everyone can store the orchids they’ve purchased so they don’t have to carry them around while enjoying the rest of the event. The event will be located at the Old Airport Pavilion.

General admission is $2.

There are early bird tickets available if you want something a little more private. This event did sell out for Mother’s Day so you may want to snap up tickets.

IRONMAN 2025 is Right Around the Corner!

Aloha everyone! With the end of summer upon us that means IronMan 2025 is right around the corner! This year Kona is playing host to the Women’s World Championship Event. The race is slated for October 11th, 2025. If you aren’t aware IronMan is the world famous 140.6 mile triathlon that plays host to some of the top competitors in the world. They swim, they bike, they run and we can all watch content from the sidelines cheering them on.

All competitors have pre-qualified through a series of races held throughout the world all year. These are the best of the best!

Plus it’s just a fun event to experience on the Big Island! Whether you’re a competitor or a spectator we have some great accommodations available for all and great proximity to the event course. Yokai Parade: Supernatural Monsters from Japan!

 

Hey Big Island visitors! If you are looking for a fun and interesting experience on the island check out the Yokai Parade exhibit in Hilo! It’s running now through the end of August so you still have some time left.

What are the Yokai? The all-encompassing title for shapeshifters, monsters, ghosts and supernatural beings and phenomena in Japan. Arguably the most well-known examples in the west would be the kitsune and the kaiju. The exhibition celebrates their journey through the ages from monsters and myths and now sometimes more friendly creatures in contemporary media.

The public viewing times are Wednesday through Saturday from 11-3 and admission is free! The event is a collaboration between the Japan Foundation, the Consulate General of Japan and the Hawaii Japanese Center in Hilo, which is where the event takes place.
