Kona, Hawaii Weather

The Kona Coast offers perfect weather year-round. There are really only two seasons in Hawaii: summer (kau) from May to October and winter (hooilo) from November to April. The average daytime summer temperature at sea level is 85° F (29.4° C), while the average daytime winter temperature is 78° (25.6° C). On The Big Island you can expect warm, tropical weather year-round (with an occasional burst of clouds or rain).

Best Time to Visit

Any time is a good time to be on the Kona Coast! Kailua-Kona has a unique microclimate for Hawai’i, because it is positioned sheltered by (lee side) three major volcanic mountains (Hualalai, Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa). This means Kona’s dry season is generally from November through March, while the rainy season runs from April through October. However, there is not much difference between the two, especially in Kailua-Kona. Kailua-Kona has warm weather throughout the year. The high temperatures range between 80 – 85 degrees Fahrenheit, and lows are around 70, with very little seasonal fluctuation.
